Utilization of the Modified Carbapenem Inactivation Method (mCIM) to Detect for Carbapenemase Production in Carbapenem-Resistant Klebsiella (Enterobacter) aerogenes, Nebraska 2023

May 6, 2024

In support of CDC’s Antimicrobial Resistance Lab Network’s (ARLN) efforts in detecting Carbapenemase-Producing Enterobacterales (CPE) in healthcare settings, the Nebraska Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) has implemented the utilization of a modified carbapenem inactivation method (mCIM) to screen carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella aerogenes (CRKA) for the presence of a carbapenemase gene. The fully automated Clear Dx™ Microbial Surveillance WGS application was used as a reflex test to assist NPHL in the robust characterization of crucial antimicrobial resistant (AMR) genes from isolates.
